The Expanse - Lou - 11-28-2015

The Expanse is a new science fiction TV show

"Its a space opera set in a future where humanity has colonized the Solar System, it follows police detective Miller (Thomas Jane), ship's officer Jim Holden (Steven Strait) and his crew as they unravel a conspiracy that threatens peace across the System and the survival of humanity."

Expanse is based on the series of 4 novels of the same name. And there are 10 episodes.

Expanse is scheduled to premiere on Syfy on December 14, 2015. But the pilot is already available to watch streaming all over the place.
I found a list of all the places you can watch it.

Hulu http://hulu.com
Amazon http://amazon.com
Google Play http://play.google.com
Vudu http://www.vudu.com
iTunes http://www.apple.com/itunes/
Playstation https://www.playstation.com/en-us/
Xbox http://www.xbox.com/en-US/
Facebook
YouTube. http://youtube.com
Syfy On Demand, SyFy.com, SyFy Now App http://www.syfy.com/episodes

I'll probably watch the pilot tonight. I've already put the books on hold at my library.

Well now. That's interesting. I read all four novels and liked them quite a bit. Going to have to watch this one!Smile

Found out Shoreh Aghdashloo is a cast member. Hope that doesn't preclude her appearing on Grimm again.Sad

Went ahead and watched the pilot episode. Looks pretty good. They seem to be sticking pretty much to the book plot line. At least so far. The pilot covers maybe Chapters 1 - 4 in volume 1. Smile

Hmm. That's actually a pretty good question.Dodgy

If they are going to follow the plot line of the books very closely then you might not want to spoil the ride. On the other hand, you might like to see how closely they do follow the books' plot line. Guess that depends on which you think you would prefer.Smile

Syfy usually only produces a 12 episode season for its shows. Given the length of the novels, each one would make a decent 12 episode season. So that would mean a 4 season run as things stand now. The 4th novel brought the story to a good conclusion, but there was nothing to preclude a 5th or more in the series. We'll see how it goes.

All I can say is that the books are pretty good and thought provoking. By the way, James S. A. Corey is the pen name for collaborators Daniel Abraham and Ty Franck. Who were once assistants to George R. R. Martin. So, any resemblance to "Game of Thrones" is strictly intentional! Tongue

I don't think "intentional" is the right word... but i think i know what you mean.

I think if i watched the tv show first it might ruin the books for me. so i think i'll read the books first. This could be a dumb idea on my part cause I still have all the game of thrones books sitting in my Kindle. But i did start reading the first novel and just didn't like it that much.

I also have enough tv shows to watch right now. i can always binge watch it next summer. Smile

This might make for a good poll idea: when confronted with a TV show that came from a novel. which one do you do first?
For me its always the book first. it just seems like the extra details in the book make the show even better.
