Grimm moves back to Fridays for Season 3 - GrimmForum - 05-12-2013

NBC just released their Fall and Mid-Season schedule for 2013/2014 and it looks like Grimm will be moving back to Fridays! I think it's a good move for Grimm, as it has done well on Fridays. Plus, I think it has a better chance of getting more Seasons on Fridays without stiff competition.

On top of that, no more Fashion Star and Grimm pairing. NBC will be airing Dateline at 8pm, Grimm at 9pm, then Dracula and Crossbones at 10pm. (Dracula and Crossbones are both 10-episode orders).

(On a side note, a lot of people think Revolution will be cancelled next year because it's being moved to Wednesdays without The Voice as its lead.)

Here is the Schedule released by NBC, and information on the shows Dracula and Crossbones.

Dracula
Spoiler :
Golden Globe winner Jonathan Rhys Meyers (“The Tudors”) stars in this provocative new drama as one of the world’s most iconic characters. It’s the late 19th century and the mysterious Dracula (Rhys Meyers) has arrived in London, posing as an American entrepreneur who wants to bring modern science to Victorian society. He’s especially interested in the new technology of electricity, which promises to brighten the night — useful for someone who avoids the sun. But he has another reason for his travels: He hopes to take revenge on those who cursed him with immortality centuries earlier. Everything seems to be going according to plan… until he becomes infatuated with a woman who appears to be a reincarnation of his dead wife. Victoria Smurfit (“About a Boy”), Thomas Kretschmann (“King Kong”), Jessica De Gouw (“Arrow”), Oliver Jackson-Cohen (“Mr. Selfridge”), Nonso Anozie (“Game of Thrones”) and Katie McGrath (“Merlin”) also star.

Writer Daniel Knauf (“Carnival”), Tony Krantz, (“24,” “Sports Night”), Colin Callender and Gareth Neame (“Downton Abbey”) serve as executive producers. “Dracula” is a production of Flame Ventures, Sky Living, Playground Entertainment, Universal Television, NBCUniversal International Television Production and Carnival Film & Television.

Crossbones
Spoiler :
it’s 1715 on the Bahamian island of New Providence, the first functioning democracy in the Americas, where the diabolical pirate Edward Teach, aka Blackbeard (John Malkovich, “(In the Line of Fire”), reigns over a rogue nation of thieves, outlaws and miscreant sailors. Part shantytown, part marauder’s paradise, this is a place like no other on earth, and a mounting threat to international commerce. To gain control of this fearsome society, Tom Lowe, a highly skilled undercover assassin, is sent to the pirates’ haven to take down the brilliant and charismatic Blackbeard. But The Closer Lowe gets, the more he finds that his quest is not so simple. Lowe can’t help but admire the political ideals of Blackbeard, whose thirst for knowledge knows no bounds. But Lowe is not the only danger to Blackbeard’s rule. He is a man with many villainous rivals and one great weakness, a passionately driven woman whom he cannot deny.

Writer Neil Cross, Walter F. Parkes, Laurie MacDonald and Ted Gold serve as executive producers. “Crossbones” is a production of Universal Television, Parkes/MacDonald Productions and Georgeville Television.

Fridays are going to be Grimm again! Smile

Those other shows sound interesting too. Much better pairings with Grimm than reality shows.

RE: Grimm moves back to Fridays for Season 3 - HellJacket - 05-21-2013

I just really want to voice my opposition to the Friday move. Despite what people say regarding Grimm benefiting from being on Friday, let me describe the problem.

There's really no way to show whether Grimm succeeded because the show premiered on Friday versus Grimm succeeding in spite of Grimm being on Friday. Any position is ultimately speculation, because we can't go back in time and show the alternate course of history. However, let me eliminate the usual arguments for Grimm being on Friday.

1. Grimm benefits from reduced competition by being on Friday - This isn't the 1990s, or 1980s, or 1970s. The majority of competition for any show isn't from other broadcast channels. It's from cable or people doing something else with their spare time now that they can DVR any show at will. Based on comparing Grimm's ratings from Friday with those on Monday earlier this year and from the episodes following the Voice, there really isn't that big a difference between what Grimm gets on Friday versus what Grimm would get on a weekly night.

2. There are lower expectations with Grimm being on Friday - This is really hard to prove in truth. There just isn't as much data for new shows on Friday. Most of the shows that get sent to the Friday Night Death slot are shows that are only being renewed for syndication purposes (see, e.g., Fringe), have established fan bases (i.e., CSI:NY), or because the channel doesn't want to spend money developing a new series (see, e.g., Touch). The few Friday renewals would likely get renewed with any ratings. Hell, CW renewed a Friday show (Nikita) that was averaging a 0.3 in the 18-49 demo this year solely for slightly better syndication purposes.

Personally, I would have liked Grimm to be on another night so that the show may actually get a good lead-in, which is unlikely ever going to be the case (I don't consider the 1.2/1.3 demo that Dateline will average next year to be a good lead-in). However, since Grimm will be on Friday once again, it's past the point for it to make sense for NBC to move the show to another night. Oh well.

Whichever day is fine as long as I get my weekly dose of Grimm

I like having Grimm on Fridays so I am happy with this.

RE: Grimm moves back to Fridays for Season 3 - grimmfreak - 06-09-2013

I think all this hemming and hawing about what night the show is on is silly, as long as I get my Grimm, no matter what night it's on, I'm good.
