Spoilers: Elementary (you've been warned) - grimmfreak - 08-07-2014

So, it seems Joan and Sherlock will have problems this season and that Joan will begin working independently with the NYPD whilst Sherlock is working with new character "Kitty" played by British actress Ophelia Lovibond...
Thoughts?

Though I do really enjoy Elementary and have liked the changes they have made (female Watson, female Moriarty, even 'that Woman' being Moriarty), their continual drift away from the core canon is starting to chafe. Whilst Holmes and Watson upon occasion didn't see eye to eye the thought that Watson would would go off and investigate without Holmes just doesn't feel right. Now it may simply be the purest in me that is bitching and moaning like a 3 year old and once I see the actual final product of the writers on Elementary I may be be pleasantly surprised, but I am still very conflicted.

This worries me as well. I guess we will have to wait and see what they come up with in the end but I too have my doubts.

I feel somewhat vindicated, I thought as an old school Sherlock fan I was perhaps being over sensitive, it's nice to know I'm not simply throwing my toys out of the proverbial pram Tongue. I will hold judgement but I wait with baited breathe to be convinced by the writers choice of story arc.

Interesting addition, wonder if she'll be on for more than one ep... The article kind of made it sound like it.

Question: You’ll probably skip past this question because you never really talk about this show, but got an Elementary scoop? —Doug
Ausiello: Skip past? Pshaw. More like run toward. This Sunday’s episode promises to be a big one for Jon Michael Hill’s Detective Marcus Bell, whose girlfriend has been physically assaulted and remains unconscious. “Of course, all eyes are on her ex-husband Roy,” previews executive producer Rob Doherty. “And Marcus is understandably upset and angry and wants to be part of the investigation.” However, “an emotional cop tends to make mistakes,” the EP notes, so “while the police are conducting the official investigation, Sherlock enlists Marcus into a separate and perhaps more compelling investigation into Roy.”

May Sweeps Preview and Finale Spoilers

ELEMENTARY
PRE-FINALE: Determined to take down SBK, Shinwell “has the temerity to approach Joan and ask for a favor” after severely beating her partner, executive producer Rob Doherty shares. “He realizes that to move up into the upper echelon of the gang…someone has to go.” So he wants the P.I. to prove that a particular lieutenant “committed a felony that will put him behind bars and allow Shinwell to ascend.” The April 30 episode, in which Bell must contend with not being able to investigate his girlfriend’s physical assault, offers “a much better sense of [the detective’s] upbringing and why we don’t hear much about [his] dad.” Finally, a “significant person from Sherlock’s past” makes her first appearance in the penultimate installment.

SEASON FINALE (MAY 21): “SBK lands squarely in Sherlock and Joan’s cross-hairs,” Doherty previews. “We’re going to meet the brains behind SBK [and] more of the players and the people that Shinwell has alluded to.” But the deeper the duo get into the investigation, “the more strain [it puts on their] relationship,” the EP says. “We’re going to see them not working at odds, but working very independently of one another.”
