I read the article and it's an interesting one. I get what the author is stating. On the other hand, all of this comes down to her opinion. Without statistics to back her up, I don't know how she can objectively state that the show is hurting real abuse survivors with their actions.
I'd be curious to know your thoughts on the article.
The best way to frustrate a cyberbully is to ignore him.
I didn't read the article but have read the writer's thoughts on this subject on countless occasions back when I was still actively posting on the AoS thread on that site. As much as I understand her disappointment for not getting what she wanted with Ward's character l, I felt the writers had a right to tell the story they wanted, however they wanted. I think most of her anger stems from the cast and writers not sympathising with his character because they wrote him that way and that they never seemed to follow after what many of Ward's fans demanded, which was a redemption arc.
This is what I posted just now
Quote:Yes, they chose a realistic way of portraying some victims of abuse who end up becoming perpetrators of abuse and victimising others. The show didn't glorify Ward's situation with his family, they were not obligated to do a redemption arc because they had a different story to tell with the characters. That's all it was. I don't think the writers regretted their position on Ward with the last pod of S4, showing how things could have turned out for Fitz in a similar situation. Their point has always remained that perhaps Ward could have turned out differently if it had been Coulson/Hand to recruit him into SHIELD instead of Garrett recruiting him into Hydra. Ward was messed up and couldn't be reformed and unfortunately ended up taking Kara down with him.
The team definitely dropped the ball where she was concerned but I understood Bobbi's position as a SHIELD agent. These people are trained at varying levels to deal with horrible situations and for the most part, the mission always took precedent. Bobbi made a decision and unwittingly doomed Kara. Yes, she could have apologised but what would be the point when they all know it wouldn't have been sincere? Bobbi looks at her actions from an agent's perspective and expected Kara to do the same. And the truth is, even if Bobbi had sincerely apologised, Kara was too far gone under Ward's influence to act rationally. Had the team suspected that Kara was under Ward's influence they perhaps could have done more but that point is moot. Kara's fate is a lot more tragic to me that Ward's who was always in command of his faculties from day one. He chose the wrong side willingly and duped Kara into doing the same.
One thing I love about AoS is that it's not pretty. The things that they put their characters through aren't pretty. The show isn't perfect by any stretch of the imagination but it seems the writers did far more in depicting the consequences of living in that universe much more than I have seen any other show attempt to do in this genre. So what Ward didn't get redeemed? He did awful things to the people who loved and trusted him. Sometimes that's how it is in real life, you can't save everyone, even the people that are worth saving like Kara was.
In the end, Aos is a work of fiction, what they write isn't a reflection of who these people are (cast and crew). They are simply trying to tell the best stories as best as they can, irrespective of whether I agree with them or not.

One thing I have to say about this show. if you are a faceless black ops strike force soldier. Your life expectancy isn’t gonna be that long.
You know you are OLD, when you see the Slide Ruler you used in college selling in an ANTIQUE SHOP!!
