I would disagree that it's a science. If it was, I think there would be a much more intelligent approach to the episodes and magic would be treated much more seriously. In my opinion, the magic in Grimm is more of an extension of the character's thought process, rather than independent of the character. For example, Adalind closing the door with a wave of her hand. She could just as easily walked over and closed it.
