If you haven't seen Ring of Fire yet, then ..... SPOILER ALERT!
In the episode Ring of Fire we learned that there is some kind of blood test to determine if a fetus has Royal blood.
This sort of screws up some of our theories. But maybe not. Maybe that Gypsy lady had a DNA thermal cycler in the back of her tent.
I originally was thinking that the Royals were a family that inherited their titles - just like the Kings and Queens of Europe. But there wouldn't be a blood test for that. Well, I suppose a paternity test could be a test for that. But in Grimm, they don't necessarily know who the father is - but maybe they are testing for the grandfather or grandmother.
And if its a genetic thing - Adalind's fetus is not guaranteed to have that trait - its only one-quarter royal. Oh wait, if it was a dominant trait.....
For a while I was thinking that the Royals was a special type of Wessen. But we've know for a while that Rennard is half Hexenbeast and half Grimm, so it can't be a unique type of Wessen. So that means its either a sub type of Hexenbeast or Grimm.
And now that I think about it. Thats sort of odd too. We knew from the film that Nick watched in the trailer, that the Royals were intolerant of inter-wessen marriages (remember, they had the Verrat executing inter-wessen couples during the Spanish Civil War). So how did they tolerate one of their own having a mixed Wessen child. There must be an interesting back story there. Oh, boy. Another mystery!
