This episode is the link from S1E1 (Nick sees his first wesen Adalind) and season 5. Not the uprising but the Nick/Adalind story. This also links LBB to Nick because of Kelly. Juliette in her explanation of synchronicity sets up the story. Nick and Adalind have been fated together from day one of Grimm. They are fated for good or bad depending on the writing to lead in a new era, with LBB and Kelly somehow or someway.
From that S1E1 Juliette was on the path out of Nick's life and Adalind was on the path into his life. In this episode Kelly saves Adalind then takes both her and LBB to Nick's house. Adalind may not agree but Nick via Kelly saves her life again by taking LBB away for her. This plan had to be Kelly's or Nick's Renard just went along with it. We are in season 5 but this episode set up season 5 and baby Kelly linking Nick and Adalind even more tightly. I'll use a Tarot point here in reading Tarot the story behind the cards you learn that your life is in 3 parts, one totally yours to do with whatever, part two you give to other people family work etc, part 3 is fate points things you are fated to do or accomplish think reincarnation. If you fail in part 3 you will have to return to complete these thing to move on. Now you can disbelieve this not a problem just telling you about a book on Tarot I read. I will say this I made one decision in Nov 1965 that one decision totally change life. Synchronicity is an event episode setting up season 5 and connecting season 1. This episode we seen the Adalind of today mother thus showing us that she could be different. We also seen the locket now we can wonder what if anything does this mean. Did you note that Kelly at Monroe's house let LBB keep the locket, I found that interesting because she a kept with her for 18 years, so should we read something to that? Also this is the first time Juliette seen a hexen woge, remember what she said about scaring the #### out of her. In season 4 when she starts to be a hexen this episode setups the fear she has to start with. This is likely the best linking episodes of season 1 to season 5 as far a Nick and Adalind. Now in season 5 we have Meisner/Nick/Adalind/Renard/ and the Scooby's all together but starts with this episode. Adalind now is in with the Scooby's but she meets them in this episode less Bud but they needed to keep Bud under the radar for season 4 to work. Wu doesn't come alone as a Scooby until 4 also so he would be under the radar. Very good episode for the plotline and in this case I'll give the writer credit for long range planning.

Carl Jung's concept of Synchronicity can be simplified as 'meaningful coincidence'. Or if you're not into his sort of mystical analytical psychology, you might think of this episode as a sequence of meant-to-be-events. In other words, fate. Used to be interested in his work, great man, but I've forgotten most of it.
Whichever approach used, it was an important episode. Kelly explained that since Adalind had undergone the ritual to regain her powers which involved killing Frau Pech, the baby would be endowed with rare power. She tells us that Diana will have extreme charisma, will hold sway over many people, therefore how she is raised will determine whether she will use her gifts for good or evil. She warns that absolutely no Royals or Resistance people should have a hand in raising the child; a normal upbringing is what she needs. We saw how the baby kinetically moved things; from a small locket, to spinning the airplane controls, to shaking Monroe and Rosalee's house. And how she could create a glamour of herself like she did with Juliette and the pillow, all in one episode. Like jsgrimm45 said, it seemed like a premonition that their lives were destined to intertwine when the baby floated the locket with Nick's picture in it and Kelly gave it to her to keep. Talk about chaotic cosmic order from disorder, geez, who knew. There was so much dry humor in the dialog, it was quite entertaining. Like the scene in Nick and Juliette's house when Adalind first was recognized, and all of the ensuing conversations Nick had with his mom because he was so worried that she was going around killing everyone, terrific writing. Loved it. Miss it. I thought the scene where Renard holds his daughter for the first time was touching and showed he loved his child. Adalind was her caustic old self, sarcastic to a fault, and wry in her observations, a stark contrast to the Adalind we see these days. Kinda miss that, too. Even though things were getting grittier, it was all still new enough to carry off a kind of lightheartedness that's missing these days. But I don't see how the show could continue to move us further into a deeper knowledge of the world of Grimm and still maintain the sort of comfortable unawareness that marks that which is known only on its surface. "Fated" to happen, imo. This episode also was when we first found out that the Royals had an agent in the Portland FBI office, one Weston Steward. Supports my belief that the HW group are basically fighting against an enemy of the people. Meaning they may be aware that all levels of government and commerce have been infiltrated and so must go underground to keep their work secret. Thoroughly enjoyable episode.

@jsgrimm and speakeasy. I have little of worth to add to your very intelligent and literate comments.
I do have a few observations about the character of Kelly. In this episode we find out she is working with the Laufer, not for them, but as an ally. If she actually worked for the Laufer, I think Meisner would have probably known who she was. She obviously (in hind sight) did not work for or with HW because, again, Meisner would have probably known who she was. But she must have had some help from some people in the Laufer. The Royals or the Wesen Council damned sure weren't going to help! And it's virtually impossible to stay on the run for years without help. Money, fake IDs, a safe house to crash from time to time, maybe even weapons. Who provided this for her? It's also obvious in hind sight, that the show was planning for her departure. I would imagine that by this time the production staff knew she didn't want to do the show any longer. Which is a damned shame. I like Bree Turner, Claire Coffee and Jacqueline Toboni. But, Mary Mastrantonio was far and away the best actress on the show! I miss her character! I also think this is the reason we are introduced to the character of Truble not 2 episodes later. The show runners and writer's wanted a leading character who was a female Grimm, but not a love interest for Nick. So, 'mom' is replaced by 'little sister'. Just one slightly humorous side note to Kelly: I can sort of understand your cold cocking the farmer and stealing his truck. Exigent circumstances and all that. But, peeling out and slinging mud on the poor guy was just downright rude!

Yeah, fwmyers1207, but that guy was so mean and no gentleman, he was going to call the authorities on a poor woman holding her baby and asking for help! But, it was so typical of Kelly, part of her charm was her impatience with social correctness, she was too authentic for any of that nonsense. And it made for some very humorous moments, I miss her, too.
That Wiki something source I referred to recently listed her as a member of the Laufer or Resistance, but I feel she is associated with them and works on contracted assignments, but is not really a member, too. She probably made her living through just these types of assignments with various groups or individuals over the years. When she wasn't tracking down her husband's and friend's killers or trying to get the coins back to the Z Island for disposal, that is! Since the reason for the Resistance is primarily to oppose the Verratt, who work strictly for the Royals, I agree that Kelly didn't get any assistance from that quarter. Dunno about the WC, Grimms sometimes work with them, I think, but Nick's been getting on everyone's nerves over there, so probably not. Just how did Kelly pay the bills; good question. Come to think of it, she took a roll of cash out of the Mauvis Dentes' jacket and stole a car when Nick took her to the airport; maybe she's a career thief when she's not on assignment, haha. All in all, it was a excellent episode, with a revisit to the memorable Kelly Burkhardt, as a special highlight.

synchronicity provides some of the most extensive commentary I have seen on the show. But remember this sets the foundation for the big change event. What I find interesting is. Kelly when she first was confronted with Monore and Rosalee being friends with Nick, she could not comprehend it. Now Kelly is saving a hexenbiest , and raising a hexenbiest child. What a perfect setup for season 5 with Nick having a half hexenbiest son.
Sean and Kelly have a long dialog explaining why we no longer hate Sean for aunt Mari. We get a recap of Adalind's Journey. This episodes we establish that Juliette and Adalind are enemies, setting up for biest fight. This episode uses Kelly to clearly define the type of Grimm all the the wesen expect to see. Kelly is then replaced with Trubel a younger version of Kelly. I get the feeling that eve of destruction will be the season 5 synchronicity. Basically it will be a recap of what got us to the HW, and Eve being a member part of the story.
