Seems to me that bathroom mirrors have actually been the casualties of peoples' problems on the show.

Will the writers give us those answers? Personally I think that if the evil is not in the stick but in the magic, magic do exists with stick or without it. I mean that the knights may have thought that even destroying the stick humanity/wesen/royals/grimms would find other source of dangerous magic to do stupid things. Maybe they thought that one day the stick would be useful to undo some of this dangerous magic. My point is: magic is not good or evil in itself (at least on grimm). People do bad use or good use of magic. Another possibility (I think this is the way the writers will let us think) the stick can’t be destroyed. The knights tried but they couldn’t destroy it, than they hide it. The map and the keys was a way to return to the stick and confirm it was still hided and protect (maybe?).

@JS and Adriano. I agree with you guys that the relic is not good or evil in and of itself. It's what someone does with it and the lure to potentially abuse it. There is an old saying that power corrupts. And there are few things more powerful than having the literal power of life and death.
The grimm knights realized this, but they also realized that taking such a miraculous relic from the world would be an even greater evil. So, they did what they could to ensure it never fell into the wrong hands, and if it somehow should they would not be able to use it without grave consequences to their selves. Which leads me to an idle speculation. Could it have been prophesied that Little Kelly and his sister Diana would be the one's to use the relic? They are a rather unusual pair.

Lets assume when hidden the stick was considered to be religious. For that reason alone they would not destroy it. It also would have been the reason to create a map to it's location. Being considered religious it would be seen as sacred. No matter how dangerous it was.

What if Mom Kelly knew it when she said Diane was destinated to change the world? What if the royals wanted Diana because they knew about the prophecy?
